Ahh Sh*t Here We Go Again...
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, known for Poor Things with Emma Stone (which I still need to see), Kinds of Kindness was an unexpected experience. The film comprises three individual movies, each about an hour long, featuring the same actors but unrelated storylines—perhaps connected by a common theme(?)
"Shocking" is the best word to describe it. It was funny at times but also filled with violence, sadness, horror, cringe-worthy moments, and everything in between. The movie evoked just about every emotion possible, leaving me feeling almost exhausted by the end. It was definitely creative, but I’m still unsure if I actually liked it. It was memorable and thought-provoking, though not a relaxing watch by any means. Swim at your own risk.
Eddie Murphy Interview Podcast (NYT)
I’m obsessed with this new restaurant loyalty app - Blackbird. Founded by the creator of Resy, Blackbird allows restaurants to implement loyalty programs similar to those of Sweetgreen or Chipotle without the need for a custom app. As a user, you can earn points across different restaurants and get all kinds of promotions (free drinks, food, events, etc).
The app has led me to explore more restaurants and happy hours and I’ve met some pretty awesome people as a result. More to come on this…
I checked out MoMA PS1 in Long Island City on a whim the other day. I was blown away by two exhibits in particular: one by Filipino artist Pacita Abad and another by modern/Native American tapestry artist Melissa Cody. The museum also has a cool bookstore and a café, making it a great spot to work from.
John Summit at Public Records
Last week, I saw John Summit perform at Public Records, which was incredible. A friend told me about the surprise show an hour before it was announced. Pretty cool to see him perform at a small venue the day before he headlined MSG.
John Wick 4
Just rewatched John Wick 4, and it’s definitely the best one yet. The soundtrack is also amazing:
Efficiency at Work through Writing
I’ve been thinking a lot about efficiency in communication at work. A friend suggested using AI to transcribe and summarize voice memos, which has actually been a game-changer. It allows me to turn ideas into logical proposals quickly, saving hours of brainstorming meetings and back and forth.
It reminds me of Jeff Bezos' approach at Amazon, where meetings start with everyone reading a written proposal/memo. It might sound extreme, but if you can’t articulate your ideas clearly in writing, you’re not ready to host a meeting.
